ADMISSION NOTE:

Brieanna is a sub-adult loggerhead that was found in the St. Lucie Power Plant Intake Canal. The initial blood-work showed anemia and overall poor health due to starvation. Hospital staff administered fluids, antibiotics and iron. Radiographs show impacted intestines that are full of what appears to be crab shells. Medications and fluids will help to restart the gut motility and enable the crab parts to be passed. The turtle was put into freshwater to remove epibiota and leeches that covered the turtle’s body for the first 48 hours. We will continue to monitor blood-work closely as we treat Brieanna.
