Outreach Programs

If your class or group cannot make it to Loggerhead Marinelife Center, we can bring the work we do at LMC to you.
The following outreach options are available all year long.

School Outreaches consist of a brief lesson on sea turtle ecology and conservation followed by an activity that best suits the needs of the class (see below). We are always happy to customize outreach programs and leave plenty of time at the end of the lesson for student questions. Please note, we cannot bring any live turtles to outreaches.

Cost: $100.00 per one-hour session
Target ages: All

Turtles to Go allows teachers the ability to rent a ready-made sea turtle lesson plan for their classroom or school for one week. Students will work on their own sea turtle “patient,” following steps for rehabilitation and release. Each trunk contains a set of sea turtle artifacts, model turtles, calipers, syringes, measuring tapes, lesson plans, background information for teachers, and in-class worksheets. The lessons adhere to Sunshine State Standards for K-5.

Cost: Complimentary based on availability
Target ages: K-5

Virtual Field Trips allow students around the world to experience Loggerhead Marinelife Center. Students will listen to a brief lesson on sea turtle ecology, get an up-close view of  each of our sea turtle patients, and have plenty of time at the end for questions. No matter where the students are geographically, they can play a part in sea turtle conservation. We hope that each student takes away this message from the Virtual Field Trips. The program runs between 30 and 45 minutes in length.

Cost: $75.00
Target ages: All

Monitoring water quality helps scientists determine the health of the ecosystem and identify necessary conservation efforts in specific areas.

Water Quality Monitoring Classroom Kits contain all the tools students need to test dissolved oxygen, pH, turbidity, and temperature of water collected from various local water bodies. Teachers or individuals may pick up kits at Loggerhead Marinelife Center for a one-month rental. All data collected will be entered into a national water quality database.

Cost: Complimentary based on availability
Target ages: K-5

Loggerhead Marinelife Center representatives may travel to your group, club, meeting, or event to give a seminar on Florida’s sea turtles, the work we do here, at Loggerhead Marinelife Center, and ways that everyone can aid in sea turtle conservation. Public Outreaches may include sea turtle trivia and Q&A sessions with the speaker. Outreaches are suitable for all ages from children to adults.

Cost: Complimentary based on availability
Target ages: All
