2018-19 Homeschool Workshops

Loggerhead Marinelife Center now offers workshops exclusively for homeschool students! This workshop series
focuses on various marine science topics, including marine biology, coastal ecology, veterinary science,
water quality, oceanography, and ocean conservation.

These workshops include hands-on activities and lessons for students ages 6-13.
Cost is $10/student for the 2 hour program; one free chaperone per family is required (and must stay on
campus for the duration of the program), but any additional chaperones will need to register as participants.

2018-19 Homeschool Workshop Schedule

SEA TURTLES 101:
Students will learn about the sea turtles of South Florida, with a focus on sea turtle biology, ecology and rehabilitation.
September 7, 2018 (Ages 6 – 9) September 21, 2018 (Ages 10 – 13)

FISH ID & FEEDING:
Students will learn the basics of fish identification and how to use environmental
clues to recognize them in their natural environment.

October 10, 2018 (Ages 6 – 9) October 26, 2018 (Ages 10 – 13)

WATER QUALITY:
Students will learn about the physical and chemical elements of the world ocean, while learning how to test water quality in their local environment.
 November 6, 2018 (Ages 6 – 9)  November 15, 2018 (Ages 10 – 13)

• LIVING BEACHES:

Students will learn about the coastal ecosystems of South Florida, and participate
in a Hammock Hike and Beach Walk.
December 4, 2018 (Ages 6 – 9) December 12, 2018 (Ages 10 – 13)

FIELD EXPERIENCES:
Students will learn the basics of field  collection techniques by working with LMC biologists in the field.
