Join an energetic, fun new group of friends as we “hatch” from our nest and grow toward the future.
“To volunteer is to choose to act in recognition of a need, with an attitude of social responsibility without concern for monetary profit, going beyond what is necessary to one’s physical well-being.”
(Susan J. Ellis and Katherin H. Noyes, in By the People: A History of Americans as Volunteers, Philadelphia, 1978)
Volunteers are the heart of the Marinelife Center! We have volunteers working in many capacities at the Marinelife Center: teaching educational programs to school groups, interpreting exhibits for visitors, answering questions about our turtle “patients”, organizing fund raising events, collecting marine specimens for our aquariums and working in our gift shop. Don’t worry if you’re not a “sea turtle expert” - experience is not always necessary. We will train all volunteers in the area(s) in which they are assigned.
The Future!
We are currently in a “growing phase”! As many of you know, the new Marinelife Center building is scheduled to open in 2007. We will have an expanded program line-up, accommodate many more visitors each day and have a larger sea turtle hospital. All of this equals the need for more volunteers!
VOLUNTEER TRAINING for ALL positions in the new facility will start in February 2007. SIGN UP NOW to be on the ground floor of this exciting new opportunity.
Requirements
Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age unless they have been a Jr. Marine Biology student (former JMB students ages 14-15 are eligible to volunteer as long as they can stay on task without direct staff supervision - at the discretion of the MLC staff).
