August 2012 Spotlight

Each month LMC staff will come together to identify a Spotlight volunteer that has gone above and beyond the call of duty in their role supporting Loggerhead Marinelife Center for the previous month. An exceptional volunteer will be selected by committee vote.

Steve Dash

Volunteer - steven dash,
education/Rehab VOLUNTEER

Steven Dash is one of our great volunteers. He has only been with us for a year and has already clocked over 400 hours.  He is extremely reliable, friendly, and willing to help whenever and wherever he is needed.

Steven works in both Sea Turtle Rehabilitation and the Education department.  He has helped numerous times with our special events, including the famous “Triple” which was World Ocean’s Day, Run 4 the Sea, and then on to a Turtle Walk; all in the same day.  More recently, Steven was one of our many volunteers that chipped in to make our educational offerings at the Art Arribada event at The Gardens Mall such a success.

In the Education department Steven helps out with our weekly Fish Feeding program, the Turtle Walks which take place in June and July; as well as his duties as an Education Docent to LMC guests.  Steven has also assisted with numerous turtle releases.  Like many of our dedicated volunteers, Steven often stays beyond his shift if he sees the need for additional help.

Steven has great initiative and is always looking around to see what else he might do to help at the center. He has attended many, if not all of the training classes offered by our Rehab staff; an important set of skills that keep our volunteers up-to-date and trained with the proper techniques of sea turtle rehabilitation.

We are so grateful to have Steven as a volunteer at LMC!
