OCTOber 2011 Spotlight

Each month LMC staff will come together to identify 2 Spotlight individuals that have gone above and beyond the call of duty in their role supporting Loggerhead Marinelife Center for the previous month. An exceptional volunteer as well as staff member will be selected by committee vote.

Lynne Wells

Volunteer - Lynne Wells,
Education VOLUNTEER

Lynne Wells has been a dedicated Loggerhead Marinelife Center volunteer for almost three years. She is an LMC Board Member, a docent in the FPL Turtle Yard, chair of the Blue Friends Society and co-chair of the center’s Go Blue Awards Luncheon alongside her husband Pete. Her responsibilities include planning five socials a year, attending monthly beach cleanups, and recruiting new donor and volunteer support. It’s not unusual to see Lynne volunteering late nights at the center!

Lynne is a graduate of the University of Florida where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta. She is a sustainer for the Junior League of the Palm Beaches and mother to Lindsay and James. Lynne is always upbeat and cheerful, and through her three years of volunteerism she has encouraged many others to take a role in promoting conservation of Florida’s coastal ecosystems with a special focus on threatened and endangered sea turtles.
Deborah Jaffe

Staff member - Deborah Jaffe,
Director of development

After 25 years of living, working, and volunteering in the Palm Beach area, Deborah Jaffe joined Loggerhead Marinelife Center as Director of Development in March 2011. The center’s staff is truly privileged to have her on the team. Since Jaffe’s arrival, she has planned the 18th Annual Loggerhead Invitational Golf Tournament and the Third Annual Go Blue Awards Luncheon, raising $93,000 for the organization. Jaffe is always working hard – she is already working on planning the 2012 Lights Out Gala. Although her diligence is second-to-none, one of her most notable qualities is her ability to laugh! She is known for being amicable and optimistic amongst staff and volunteers alike.

Jaffe has many community involvements as well. She and her husband Marc co-chaired the 2011 North Palm Beach Heart Ball benefiting the American Heart Association, which she has volunteered for since 1993. She co-chaired and chaired the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in 2007 and 2008. Jaffe has also volunteered with Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, American Cancer Society, Executive Women of the Palm Beaches, Palm Beach Atlantic University, Royal Palm Beach Elementary School, and The Arthritis Foundation.  She is a proud graduate of Palm Beach Atlantic University and previously worked as their Director of Alumni Relations.

When she’s not working or volunteering in the community, Jaffe is the proud mother to Lauren, 7, and 6 year old twins Matthew and Alexa.
