LMC in the News

January 3, 2013 was a day that caught the attention of the local community, as well as communities in Indiana, Massachusetts and Missouri. After 34 days of treatment, we held a public release for two of our sea turtle patients, Ellie and Donovan. Both sea turtles were part of the group that originally stranded in Cape Code, Massachusetts and were transferred to the center on December 7, 2012. The sea turtles had hardy appetites and responded quickly to treatments which allowed them to return back to the wild in a short matter of time. Donovan was fitted with a GPS tag which will track the turtle’s location for about four months. We will be providing weekly updates on Donovan’s location at www.marinelife.org/track.

Unfortunately, the New England Aquarium continues to receive a record number of sea turtles stranding in Cape Cod Bay this year. Due to these strandings, we are expecting to receive up to 10 more loggerhead and possibly two Kemp’s ridley sea turtles in the next few days. The remaining turtles from the original group (Boomer, Frosty and Snowflake) continue to do well. You can follow their progress at www.marinelife.org/patients.
