Current Condition: Improving
Captain Jack arrived on Friday. This animal seems to be doing well, swimming in a deeper tank. This animal came in with less severe anemia than most chronic debilitated turtles. This animal is eating well. Antibiotics, fluids and antifungals are being administered.

1/20/2014 - Captain Jack’s release has been schedule for Wednesday, January 22nd. The satellite tag is scheduled to be place on the carapace on Monday, January 20th. Please check out our Facebook page for more information regarding Captain Jack’s release.

12/9/2013 - Captain Jack is doing well and waiting for clearance to be released.
11/25/2013 - Captain Jack will receive a routine antiparasitic treatment in the near future. This will rid Captain Jack of any potential parasites still remaining in the intestines.
11/18/2013 - Recent bloodwork appeared normal. The shell still has a few soft spot that need to become firm before being ready for release. Captain Jack is still receiving oral calcium supplements.
11/11/2013 - Captain Jack continues to improve. No changes to the turtle’s current treatment plan have been made.
11/4/2013 - Captain Jack will continue to be monitored until the shell is hard enough to be cleared for release.
10/28/2013 - Captain jack is continuing to receive oral calcium supplements to harden the carapace.
10/21/2013 - No changes have been seen in Captain Jack’s behavior or appetite. This animal will continue to be monitored.
10/14/2013 - The shell still has a few soft spots. Captain Jack will remain on oral calcium supplements and will be re-examined this week to adjust the dose.
10/7/2013 - Captain Jack has been slowly improving. No changes have been made to the current treatment plan this week.
9/30/2013 - Captain Jack continues to maintain a steady diet and actively swim around the tank.
9/23/2013 - Captain Jack will continue on oral calcium supplements until the shell is completely firm. Captain Jack is continuing to do well.
9/16/2013 - Captain Jack was placed on oral calcium supplements as this animal’s shell was soft in a few locations.
9/9/2013 - Captain Jack has not had any changes since being discontinued from all medications.
9/2/2013 - Captain Jack is still continuing to improve. Blood work shows improvement in the white count.

8/19/2013 - Captain Jack is still continuing to improve. No changes have been noted in Captain Jack’s behavior or treatment plan.
8/12/2013 - Captain Jack is eating well and gaining weight. Captain Jack will continue on the current treatment plan.
8/5/2013 - A white cell count and blood chemistry will be done this week for Captain Jack to evaluate this animal’s progress.
7/29/2013 - Captain Jack will be moved to a larger tank. This animal will have more room to swim and build flipper muscles while this animal is active. The medical treatment plan for this animal has not changed.
7/19/2013 - Captain Jack will continue with the oral antifungal treatments as well as injectable antibiotics. This turtle has become more active in the tank and during treatments.
7/11/2013 - Captain Jack’s appetite has returned and is eating well. This animal is now receiving oral antifungal medications.
7/4/2013 - Due to changes in behavior and appetite, Captain Jack’s plan has been altered slightly. The turtle is receiving oral antifungal and antibiotic injections daily.
6/27/2013 -The turtle’s anemia is improving and it is now receiving iron injections every other day.
6/20/2013 - The turtle received an initial dose of antiparasitic this week.
6/13/2013 - There has been no change to this turtles treatment plan this week.
6/6/2013 - Captain Jack continues to respond well to its current treatment plan.
5/30/2013 - The turtle is eating well and is already gaining weight.
